From June 25th to July 1st, 16 nations from all over the world will be showing off / German team fights to stay in the league
The 20th International IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship begins next Sunday in Bratislava (Slovakia).
About the World Cup mode:
The preliminary round of the World Cup will be held in two so-called pools (A pool and B pool), which in turn are divided into two groups of four teams each. The A pool with groups A and B consists of the eight best-placed nations from the previous World Cup, while the B pool with groups C and D consists of the nations ranked ninth to sixteenth. Groups A and B in particular offer numerous top ice hockey nations, peppered with well-known professionals who play inline hockey for balance and fun in the summer. After the preliminary round has been completed, the participants in groups A and B then play to determine the world champion in the play-off process, while in the B pool the promoted team to the A pool is determined from groups C and D.
Nine years ago fand the World Championships have already taken place in the Slovakian capital, where Germany sensationally won the bronze medal. This year, however, the chances of winning a medal are probably even worse than back then, as national coach Georg Holzmann has to cope with numerous rejections from established inline players from the DEL.
Potential candidates who pursue ice hockey professionally in the DEL, such as: B. Patrick Seifert (Wolfsburg), Stephan Daschner, Marcel Brandt (both Düsseldorf) or Patrick Buzas and Marco Pfleger (Nuremberg) will be replaced by players who worked as ice hockey amateurs in the winter Bayernplay league. Under these conditions, the declared goal for the World Cup is “remaining in the league”. This target is difficult enough, considering that multiple world champions such as Sweden and Finland as well as the Czech Republic are Germany's opponents in the preliminary round in Group B. There with world champion Kanada, the USA and Slovakia from Group A, further big calibers in the cross-over games on the team led by captain Steffen Tölzer (Augsburger Panther) wait, the decisive game for staying in the league will probably take place against Croatia, the sensational newcomer to the last Inline World Cup.
