THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2024

The German U20 national team won its World Cup warm-up match on Thursday. DEBselection won against Kazakhstan 4-0 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0) at the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior (Canada). The goals were scored by Carlos Händel, Noah Samanski, Timo Ruckdäschel and Tobias Schwarz. The German goalie Linus Vieillard celebrated a shutout in his first game for the U20 national team.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2024

Second day of training in Ottawa. This time directly at TD Place. The branding measures on site are in full swing - the locker room that the German team uses for training will be the setting for Switzerland's U20 World Cup.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2024

First day of training in Ottawa! The U20 national team first went to TD Place and then, in full gear, took the bus to the Carleton Ice House. There, the team trained on the ice for 90 minutes before heading back to the hotel.

The 26 players and 12 staff members are staying in a centrally located hotel in the Canadian capital. All other nations are also staying in the same hotel - with the exception of the host country Canada.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2024

Arrival at the World Cup venue! The U20 national team set off for Halifax by bus in the early hours of the morning. From there they flew to Montreal and finally to Ottawa. There, the team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter moved into their hotel rooms, which they will keep until the end of the tournament.

After the first dinner in the hotel, the team went to TD-Place, which is the training ground for the U20 national team during preparation. The arena is otherwise the home of the Ottawa 76ers (OHL) and the PWHL team Ottawa Charge, for which DEBgoalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter played last season. In addition, the TD Place will be the venue for the Group B matches during the U20 World Cup with the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2024

The German U20 national team lost its second World Cup warm-up match on Sunday. The team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter lost 1:4 (0:2, 0:0, 1:2) to Slovakia in Moncton (Canada). The Slovakians scored in the first minute and ultimately went into the third break with a two-goal lead. In the final period, Elias Pul scored to make it 1:4 from the DEB-Selection.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2024

Tour of the Wildcats' locker room! Back at the Avenir Centre, the players first went to the home team's locker room. Their attacker and U20 national team player, Julius Sumpf, showed them the impressive rooms.

From there they went to their own changing rooms and later to training in the training hall, 20 minutes away. The players were welcomed on site by the DEB-Selection of numerous children who lined up upon arrival.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2024

Travel day for the German U20 national team! The 26 players and 12 staff members traveled by bus from Charlottetown to Moncton, 165 kilometers away. After a two-hour drive, the team arrived and moved into the changing rooms at the Avenir Centre.

In the evening it was “Gameday”! But not for the U20 national team but for the Moncton Wildcats, who are based in the Avenir Centre. DEBselection attended the game, which was only decided in overtime in favor of the hosts. This was especially true for attacker Julius Sumpf - he usually plays for the Wildcats, is currently the team's top scorer and is assigned to the U20 national team. He was shaking in the stands with his teammates.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2024

The German U20 national team lost its first World Cup preparation match on Thursday. The team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter lost 1:3 (0:2, 0:1, 1:0) to Slovakia at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. DEBselection started with commitment and dominated the game in the first ten minutes. However, Slovakia took advantage of a double power play situation in the 13th minute to score and built up the score to 0:3 from the perspective of the DEBselection. Edwin Tropmann scored for the German U20 national team in the final period after preparatory work by Julius Sumpf.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2024

Cabin move-in and first ice training of the DEBselection at the Eastlink Center! The arena is the home of the Charlottetown Islanders (Canadian Hockey League) and also of the U20 national team, at least for the next two days. The DEBThe team trained on the ice for around 1,5 hours at the start. This year, the entire preparation takes place on a small ice surface - including a total of four preparation games.

It continues for them DEB-Selection the next day with a pre-game skate in the morning and the warm-up game against Slovakia in the evening (19 p.m. local time / midnight German time). TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2024

Second day, second flight – with the upcoming enemy on board. After breakfast, the DEBselection began its journey from Montreal to Charlottetown. The Slovakian team, which will be the first opponent in preparation for the IIHF U0 Ice Hockey World Championship on the night from Thursday to Friday at midnight (German time), also took a seat on the same plane.

In Charlottetown, the five North American players, Carlos Händel, David Lewandowski, Norwin Panocha, Noah Samanski and Julius Sumpf, joined the team – the U20 selection is now complete.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2024

The German U20 national team set off for Montreal on Monday, December 9th at 16:45 p.m. Full of anticipation, 21 players (the five North American players are yet to join the team) and 12 staff members set off for the Canadian city. It is the first of four stops on the route to the IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship. After a night in a hotel near Montreal airport, the team of U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter will continue on its route the next morning.
