The U18 national team has played its first game at this year's Hlinka Gretzky Cup Lost. The final score against Finland in the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton (CAN) was 2:5 (2:0, 0:2, 0:3).
Goals from Max Calce (6th minute) and Nikita Bloch (15th minute) gave the German team a 2-0 lead after a strong performance. The U18 team continued to hold their own against the favored Finns in the second period, with the score tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. Finland pulled ahead with two goals midway through the final period, and an empty-net goal shortly before the final buzzer sealed the victory for Finland.

We could have gotten even more out of it in the end, but efficiency made the difference between the two teams. The Finns were a bit more clinical than us in that respect. Nevertheless, we take away the fact that we executed many details well in our game. We'll build on that and prepare directly for the next match."
The team coached by Andreas Becherer continues their tournament campaign today. They face the Czech Republic at 21 pm German time.
