Shortly before the start of the 2026 IIHF World Championship, there is another change in the roster of the German men's national team: NHL forward Lukas Reichel (Boston Bruins) will be joining the team. DEBReichel will strengthen the roster and arrives in Zurich today. The 23-year-old signed a new NHL contract in recent days. Reichel is available to the DEB-Selection thus available for the World Cup.
Christian Künast, Sports Director of the DEB“We maintained continuous contact with Lukas over the past few weeks and were always closely informed about developments. Once it was confirmed that he had signed a new contract and was therefore available to us, we were able to quickly finalize all the formalities. We are delighted that he will be strengthening our team for the World Championships in Switzerland.”
National coach Harold Kreis: “We are convinced that he can add another dimension to our game. His recent appearances at international tournaments have also demonstrated this. Therefore, it was clear to us that we would nominate him as soon as the contract situation was clarified. We are pleased that it worked out in time.”
However, Reichel's nomination also entails another squad decision: striker Dominik Bokk will no longer be part of the current World Cup squad.
National coach Harold Kreis: "This is not an easy situation so close to the start of the tournament. We weighed up the roles within the team and came to this decision. This morning we informed the team and spoke with Dominik personally. We expressly thank him for his commitment in recent days."
Lukas Reichel will join the team training immediately upon his arrival in Zurich.
