The German Ice Hockey Federation mourns the loss of Jiri Ehrenberger, who passed away at the age of 70 after a long and serious illness, surrounded by his family. With his passing, German ice hockey loses an outstanding expert, passionate coach, and champion of young talent.
The Czech-born player initially played before transitioning to coaching at a young age. From 1987 to 1993, the certified coach worked for various Young Talent national teams of the DEB in action. During this time, he influenced numerous young players and, with expertise and great commitment, laid important foundations for their athletic development.
Ehrenberger also held responsible positions at the club level for many years – including as coach and sporting director – and played a key role in shaping club structures. He was particularly committed to the long-term development of talent and the connection between the youth academy and the professional team. Jiri Ehrensberger made his home in Deggendorf, where he served as head coach of the [team name missing] until the 2024/2025 season. DEB-Deggendorfer SC, a team in the Oberliga (fifth tier).
With Jiri Ehrenberger, the ice hockey world loses a valued coach and a formative personality who has significantly shaped this sport in Germany for many years.
