The women's team lost to Japan after overtime.

Both teams started the match somewhat cautiously. The Japanese had the first chance after just over three minutes, but Lisa Hemmerle in the German goal made the save. The German team also became more active and took control of the game during this phase. Schiefer's goal in the twelfth minute was therefore a deserved lead, which lasted only 63 seconds. Akane Shiga responded immediately, equalizing at 1-1 in the 13th minute.

After the change of ends, the first penalty of the game was called: Rui Ukita had to go to the penalty box for two minutes; the team was able to capitalize on this advantage. DEBThe women, however, failed to capitalize. When Svenja Voigt received a two-minute penalty for tripping shortly afterward, Yumeka Wajima scored to give Japan a 2-1 lead (29th minute). Both teams made substitutions in the 30th minute. Goalies, Chiara Schultes was now in DEB-Goal. No further clear-cut chances materialized for the remainder of the period.

At the start of the final period, the German team showed more courage on offense and created good opportunities to equalize. During their third penalty kill (starting in the 52nd minute), the visitors defended tenaciously, but were powerless in the 56th minute. Celina Haider capitalized on a rebound to score the well-deserved equalizer, sending the game into overtime.

Akane Shiga scored in overtime to give Japan a 3-2 victory.

Excellent DEBJule Schiefer became the first player.

The women's team's five-day Olympic camp concludes with tonight's international match. Tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2026, the team will travel from Füssen to Milan and settle into their accommodations in the Olympic Village in the afternoon. The first team training session is scheduled for Sunday.

Women's national coach Jeff MacLeod: "It was a good, evenly matched game. We were able to use all our lines. Both teams played hard and fast. It was an important test for what awaits us in Milan. The great atmosphere here in Peiting shows how German women's ice hockey is currently developing. We're happy to take that with us."

Jule Schiefer: "It was a typical preparation match, one we had to find our rhythm in. We did a good job and scored the first goal. After falling behind, we fought our way back strongly. Now we're looking forward to the Olympic Games and the whole experience in Milan."
