The German women's U18 national team won their second group game at the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship (Division I, Group A) in Italy. DEBThe German U18 women's national team, coached by Sebastian Jones, defeated Denmark 2-1 (0-0, 0-0, 2-1). Isabell Manns and Aimée Georgi scored the goals for Germany at the Arena Ritten.
The match was barely two minutes old when the first shot on goal came from Danish captain Olivia Lundmark, but German goalkeeper Tara Bach made a comfortable save. After that, the DEBThe Danish women, as they had against France the previous day, took control. Annika Stephainski tested Denmark's goalkeeper Anja Poulsen in the 5th minute, who then went into top form. It wasn't until ten minutes in that the Danes were able to relieve some of the pressure from the German team, but only briefly. Germany regained momentum, but Alexandra Boico and Mathilda Heine also couldn't get past Poulsen (11th/15th minute). The Danish goalkeeper was her team's best player in the first period.
The same thing happened afterwards: The DEBThe German women came out of the locker room with renewed energy and pressed for the opening goal. Boico had another excellent opportunity in the 21st minute, finding herself one-on-one with Poulsen. The game continued in only one direction, and after just under half an hour, both Heine and then Stephainski missed chances against the Danish goalkeeper. Defensively, the German women remained very alert and conceded nothing. This only changed shortly before the second break. But DEB-Goalkeeper Tara Bach was on hand to stop a solo run by Teresa Christensen (39th minute).
The game would be decided in the final period. And that's where Sebastian Jones' team struck. Isabell Manns intercepted a cross-ice pass and coolly slotted home the opening goal for Germany in the 42nd minute. And it got even better: defender Aimée Georgi joined the attack and completed the quickfire double after a cross-ice pass. Denmark, however, found a way back, with Christensen scoring on a power play with a one-timer to narrow the gap (45th minute). The game remained tense, and in the 49th minute, Bach made a strong save to keep the score level. ParaThe lead was secured against Christensen. Denmark took a timeout towards the end, but the German U18 women held onto their narrow lead until the finish. As the best DEB-Player Charleen Poindl was honored.
#GERDEN: Vote and statistics
U18 women’s national coach Sebastian Jones: "We started today's game with a lot of energy, communicated well, supported each other, and tried to move the puck around. We succeeded at times, creating many scoring chances, but weren't always clinical enough in front of goal. The game remained 0-0 for a long time; it was very hard-fought – the team invested a lot and showed patience. In the final period, we rewarded ourselves with two quick goals and then had good control of the game. The goal against us made it close again, but we fought until the end and ultimately deserved the win. Now we'll recover well, work on a few details in training tomorrow, and want to deliver our best performance again on Thursday against Italy."
