The German women's national team won their home international match in Memmingen. Coach Jeff MacLeod's team defeated Austria 3-0 (1-0, 0-0, 2-0) in front of 2.071 spectators. The goalscorers for the German women's national team were: DEBThe selected team consisted of Mathilda Heine, Franziska Feldmeier, and Svenja Voigt. Franziska Feldmeier celebrated her 100th international appearance, and goalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter recorded a shutout.
The women's national team created numerous dangerous scoring opportunities from the middle of the first period onward, aiming to take the lead. Svenja Voigt, Emily Nix, and Laura Kluge initially had good chances to make it 1-0. In the 10th minute, Lilli Welcke delayed her shot before testing the Austrian goalkeeper again with a wrist shot. Up until the 15th minute, the DEBThe German team continued to apply pressure before Mathilda Heine scored her third international goal (16th minute) to give Germany the lead. After a beautiful passing move by Laura Kluge and Emily Nix, Nicola Hadraschek even had a chance to extend the lead in the final minute of the opening period.
In the second period, it was Nicola Hadraschek again who brought the puck dangerously close to the opposing goal in the 24th minute. During their own power play, the German national team continued to increase the pressure, creating further opportunities through Lilli Welcke from a sharp angle (27th minute) and Laura Kluge from the slot (28th minute). Captain Daria Gleissner shot just wide of the goal from close range in the 38th minute. Overall, the DEB-Selection won the game, but was unable to add another goal in the second half.
That changed in the final period when Franziska Feldmeier (46th minute), celebrating her 100th international appearance, scored the much-celebrated second goal to make it 2-0. Two minutes before the end, Svenja Voigt completed the 3-0 victory.
The German national team will face Austria again tomorrow. The opening face-off in the second leg in Dornbirn is at 15:00 PM.
