Paul Huber responded immediately for Austria, restoring their lead in the 32nd minute. The score remained 2-1 at the second intermission.
The German team had envisioned a different start to the final period. After a mistake in their build-up play, Austria capitalized, with Leon Wallner scoring to make it 3-1 after just 49 seconds (41st minute). The hosts failed to convert two power plays. Rohrer then scored again, his second goal effectively sealing the victory (52nd minute). Dominic Zwerger added another to make it 5-1 (55th minute). Philipp Preto pulled one back for Germany in the 59th minute with his first international goal, making the final score 5-2.
