The German women's national team has won its title at the Deutschland Cup Germany defended their title. In their final tournament match at the VR-Bank Arena Landshut, the team coached by Jeff MacLeod defeated Hungary 9-1 (2-0, 3-0, 4-1) in front of 3.246 spectators, overtaking Slovakia in the standings due to their superior head-to-head record. Goal scorers for the DEBThe selection included Carina Strobel, Mathilda Heine (2x), Ronja Hark, Daria Gleißner, Celina Haider, Emily Nix, Katharina Häckelsmiller and Franziska Feldmeier.
In the goal of the DEBSandra Abstreiter started for the team in the final tournament game, with Lisa Hemmerle as her backup. As usual, the team was led onto the ice by captain Daria Gleißner.
The German team took the lead in the second minute. A shot from Strobel rebounded off the boards and hit Hungary's goaltender Anikó Nemeth behind her, who inadvertently put the puck into her own net. The German team then had to play four minutes shorthanded due to two consecutive penalties, but they didn't allow any goals. Things went better for the Germans when Hungary received their first penalty. On the power play, Mathilda Heine scored her first international goal to make it 2-0 (16th minute).
About five minutes into the second period had been played when the DEBThe team scored again on the power play. A shot from the blue line was deflected by Hark, making it 3-0 (26th minute). Just under two minutes later, Gleißner extended the lead to 4-0 (28th minute). The Hungarians then changed their goalie. Shortly before the intermission, Haider scored to make it 5-0 (37th minute), underlining the team's dominant performance in that period.
Just 36 seconds into the third period, the visitors had their first reason to celebrate. Mira Seregely narrowed the gap to 5-1 (41st minute). However, Emily Nix restored the two-goal lead in the 45th minute with her third goal of the tournament. Heine then set up her second goal of the game with a spectacular move, making it 7-1 (48th minute). A quickfire double from Häckelsmiller (51st minute) and Feldmeier (52nd minute) followed, bringing the final score to 9-1.
With their third win in their third tournament game, the DEBThe team won the tournament. Daria Gleißner was named best player of the match.
