The German women's national team also won their second game at the Deutschland Cup Germany won the 2025 World Cup at the VR-Bank Arena in Landshut. The team, coached by Jeff MacLeod, defeated Slovakia 3-2 in overtime (1-2, 1-0, 0-0, 1-0) in front of 1.825 spectators. Goal scorers for the DEBThe selection included Emily Nix, Tabea Botthof and Nicola Hadraschek-Eisenschmid.
Women's national coach Jeff MacLeod made a few changes to the lineup for the game: Lisa Hemmerle started in goal, with Chiara Schultes as her backup. As usual, the team was led onto the ice by captain Daria Gleißner.
The German team got off to a better start, creating the first offensive opportunities. After five minutes, Nix scored on the power play to give the hosts a 1-0 lead (6th minute). Just 17 seconds later, the visitors equalized through Nikola Rumanova (6th minute). Another power play failed to produce a goal for Germany. Celina Haider had perhaps the best chance to put Germany back in front shortly before the break, while Nix had previously hit the post. With 25 seconds remaining in the first half, Simone Bednarik capitalized on a power play to give Germany a 2-1 lead at the break (20th minute).
Right at the beginning of the middle third, the DEBThe women had a chance to equalize with their next power play, but failed to capitalize. They then increased the pressure on the Slovakian goal. Laura Kluge and Tabea Botthof had two excellent scoring opportunities, but had to wait until the 33rd minute for their well-deserved goal celebration. Botthof tied the game with a shot from the blue line.
The final period began with a great chance for Daria Gleißner, whose shot narrowly missed the net. The pace of the game remained high and intensified. This played into the hands of the German women, as the Slovakian team, playing their third game in three days, focused solely on defense. Despite well-executed scoring opportunities and a power play, MacLeod's team failed to find the back of the net. The game was finally decided in overtime by a wrist shot from Hadraschek-Eisenschmid (62nd minute).
To the best DEBEmily Nix was chosen as player of the evening.
