The Selber Wölfe, relegated from the DEL2, have secured a place in the Oberliga Süd settled in quickly and are leading the table after four match weeks. And the Erding Gladiators, promoted from the Bayernleague, have already shown that they can compete in the third league.
The Selber Wolves had a challenging start to their Oberliga season, facing Deggendorfer SC, one of the league's top teams, on the second matchday. Thanks in part to a strong second period and an equally strong goalkeeping performance from Michel Weidekamp, the match ended 4-1 for the league newcomers, who then suffered their first defeat in Bad Tölz shortly afterwards. With seven wins from eight matches, they remain top of the table.
Nothing new behind Selb
With the ECDC Memmingen Indians, the Deggendorfer SC and the Heilbronner Falken There are three teams in positions two through four that one would have expected to be there. Memmingen only picked up four points from their first three games, including a rather unexpected overtime loss to the Stuttgart Rebels, but then started off with five consecutive victories. Deggendorf has also lost twice, albeit to Selb and Memmingen, the two teams ahead of them in the standings. Heilbronn only picked up three points from their first three games, but shot their frustrations away with a decisive 9-1 victory against Stuttgart and is now fourth.
Peiting, Bayreuth and Passau surprise
The first surprise in the ranking is the EC Peiting, who last year only just managed to reach the pre-playoffs by finishing tenth. Currently, the Peitinger are in the top six in fifth place and are tied with a trio of Tölzer Löwen, the onesto Tigers Bayreuth and the EHF Passau Black Hawks Of these, Bayreuth and Passau in particular can also look forward to a successful start to the 2025/2026 season, as both missed the top ten last spring. The biggest individual victory of the surprise trio was recorded by the Black Hawks, who defeated Memmingen.
Stuttgart and Erding also have a positive start
Even behind the top ten, which is rounded off by SC Riessersee, there are still happy faces to be found. The Stuttgart Rebels, for example, struggled to keep up with the level of the third division in their Oberliga debut two years ago, but at least managed to catch up with the other teams last season, finishing last in the regular season. Now they seem to be taking the next step and are currently in eleventh place, sniffing around the top ten – including a decisive 8-0 victory against EV Füssen. The newly promoted Erding Gladiators are also showing that they have arrived in the Oberliga, winning two of their eight matches. Their first home victory came against none other than the Heilbronner Falken, last year's main round champion.
Füssen and Höchstadt are looking for a way out of the cellar
However, things are not yet going well for EV Füssen and the Höchstadt Alligators, who are currently ranked 13th and 14th respectively. However, after seven consecutive defeats – two of which came in overtime – there is a sense of renewed optimism in Füssen, as they turned a 2-3 deficit against SC Riessersee in the 59th minute into a 4-3 victory before the final whistle. The Höchstadt Alligators, on the other hand, knew even before the first face-off that the start of the new season would be particularly difficult. Due to construction work in their own stadium, the first three home games had to be postponed, meaning that only five away games have been scheduled so far. Höchstadt is all the more excited to be playing at home for the first time next weekend and, with the support of the local team, would like to Fans now find a way out of the bottom of the table.
