The U18 women's national team has successfully completed its first international match of the new season. At the tournament in Fondo (ITA), the team from National coach Sebastian Jones with seven points from three tournament matches in second place – level on points with the Hungarians, who won the direct comparison with the DEBselection narrowly won 3-2 after a penalty shootout on the final day of the tournament.
In the first two matches against Italy (9-0) and Austria (5-2), the German team showed a convincing performance and rewarded themselves with numerous goals and the optimal points tally. In the decisive match for the tournament victory against the U18 selection of Hungary, who compete in the World Cup top division, the DEBThe German team continued the impression from the previous matchdays and performed on equal terms with the tournament favorites in a thrilling duel. The German team remained undefeated after 60 minutes and extra time, and had several chances to secure the tournament victory within 65 minutes of play. Only the penalty shootout ultimately decided the match in Hungary's favor.
U18 women's national coach Sebastian Jones with his summary of the tournament in Fondo: "Our team implemented the things we discussed and worked on before the tournament very well and incorporated them into the games. Especially in the first two matches, we were focused on offense. We played aggressively with all five players, both from our own zone and in the opponent's third, creating many scoring opportunities and converting them into goals. In the final match against the Hungarians from the top division, we saw an open, intense game on equal terms between two well-structured teams. Both teams had chances to win the game in regulation time – in the end, a single goal in the penalty shootout, with strong goalkeeping performances on both sides, made the difference. As a lesson for the next steps, it is important to continue working within our structures, which make us strong and successful as a team, and to continue to focus on this process."
