Your career as an active ice hockey player is coming to an end or has already ended – what now?
One possible option to remain loyal to the sport is to pursue a career as a referee. The Grassroots Camp offers this opportunity under this year's motto “Be #PARToftheGAME – it’s not just a cliché, it’s reality”, A simple way to get a taste of refereeing for a day. This year's Grassroots Camp will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 17 p.m. at the Curt Frenzel Ice Stadium in Augsburg instead.
Who is the target group of the grassroots camp?
The grassroots camp is designed for active or former players of the PENNY DEL, blossom-ic DFEL, DEL2, Oberliga or U20 DNL.
What does the Grassroots Camp offer?
The camp is divided into a two-and-a-half-hour theoretical part and a practical part of the same length. In the lecture hall, ice hockey rules will be discussed and evaluated using video examples. Possible career paths will also be presented to answer all questions about "How do I become a referee?" in detail. Referees from the PENNY DEL and DEL2 will also share their experiences. In the practical part, participants will have the opportunity to try out as referees or linesmen and even officiate a game for a U17/U20 team.
Who leads the grassroots camp?
The camp will be led by current referees from the PENNY DEL and DEL2. Additionally, the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) the head of refereeing Manuela Gröger-Schneider and instructor Stephan Bauer will be present. The BEV will be represented by Werner Haas. Lars Brüggemann (PENNY DEL) and Stefan Vogl (DEL2) will serve as scouts.
