Voices about the game:
National coach Harold Kreis"The Americans had too many power play attacks in the first period. In the second period, we made a few adjustments, and then we stopped that. We started skating and playing the puck deep. We got into a good forechecking game. And that sped up our game overall; the team's aggressiveness increased. We said we had to get out of the period faster. We fought back in the second period. With the two power play goals, the score was perhaps a bit too high."
Striker Wojciech Stachowiak: "We certainly didn't expect to start the game with a 0-1 deficit right away. But from the second period onwards, we showed what we were capable of. We wanted to make a statement, and I'm proud that we were able to fight back like that. We have a lot of character in the team and never give up. We said we would fight to the end, no matter the score. Now we just have to look forward."
Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer: "The first period wasn't outstanding, of course. But from the second period onwards, we came out unbelievably and stepped up our game. That's exactly what we set out to do. If we keep playing like this, we can beat anyone. We need to play consistently and be more consistent. We need to read the game better and attack the man aggressively. Now we're looking at the things we did differently in the first period. But we're also looking at the good things, which is important too. And then we'll continue against the Czech Republic."
Defender Eric Mik: "I'm glad I scored my first goal. But it would have been nicer if we'd also gotten some points today. In the first period, we didn't do the little things right and didn't win the important duels. We did better in the second period; we played more simply. We have high standards for ourselves, and it was clear that we can compete with the big teams. It's the utilization of opportunities and the little things that we need to continue to improve."
