The U16 women's national team will compete in the European Cup in Ferlach, Austria, from May 5 to 11, 2025. At the end of the 2024/2025 season, U16 honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner will travel to Carinthia with a 22-person squad for the 6-Nation Tournament. The German team will depart for Austria on Monday morning, May 5, 2025. The first ice session at the hockey training center in Ferlach is scheduled for 19.15:XNUMX p.m. that evening.
The German Young Talent Team will face teams from France, Poland, Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia over the course of the tournament week. A tight schedule of five matches in six days. The tournament will be played with a shortened playing time of three 15-minute matches. Compared to last year, the tournament format has changed – instead of two groups followed by a placement match, this year it's "everyone against everyone." Ultimately, the standings will determine the placing. The tournament kicks off with the DEB-Team on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 12.30:XNUMX p.m., on France.
In addition to U16 honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner, U18 women's national coach Sebastian Jones (assistant coach), Julia Zorn (assistant coach) and Viona Harrer (goalkeeper coach) complete the coaching team.
U16 honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner: "We believe the squad we've selected for the European Cup is the strongest currently available to us in the U16 women's competition. We welcome the "everyone against everyone" format, as it optimally prepares the players physically, mentally, and structurally for participation in future World Cups. We travel to Austria with the goal of winning every match, which will obviously not be easy against nations like Slovakia or Hungary. However, if we can consistently deliver our performance, we will be able to compete against all participating teams. We're looking forward to an interesting and competitive tournament."
