The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund e. V (DEB) mourns the loss of Tobias Eder. The national player and striker of the Eisbären Berlin has passed away at the age of 26 after a serious illness. All employees, coaches, staff members and teammates within the DEB are stunned and shocked by the devastating news that has reached us.
Tobi Eder went through all Young Talent national teams of the DEB with great success and made his debut with the men's national team in 2021. He scored his first international goal at Deutschland Cup 2022, he was called up three times in total for the home tournament of the DEB At least since his first appearance in the DEB-Jersey of the men's national team, one of his big dreams was to be able to play in a World Cup for his home country. He worked towards this goal with great persistence and dedication and repeatedly attracted attention through his successes as a striker in the PENNY DEL.
2024 should be the year of his greatest sporting successes: With the Eisbären Berlin He won the German championship in April of that year, and a few days later he was called up to the World Cup squad by national coach Harold Kreis. On May 10, 2024, he celebrated his first World Cup appearance against Slovakia and crowned the personal highlight experience with his first World Cup goal. After two extremely successful, personally fulfilling months in the spring of 2024, he was quoted as saying: "April and May could definitely have gone worse. This is something I have worked towards my whole life."
Today we let these words, which make us both thoughtful and unspeakably sad, fade away and go into silence within us. We remember the many funny, beautiful and special moments that we were able to experience with Tobi and say goodbye with great gratitude for the time we spent together. At the same time, our thoughts are with his family, his fiancée, his friends and teammates, who of course have our full support during these difficult days. We are at your side!
