The German U18 women's national team has won its second match at the U18 World Championship in Budapest. On Monday afternoon, the match against Austria ended with 4:1 (0:1, 3:0, 1:0). Goal scorers for the DEBteam were Charleen Poindl and Alexandra Boico (3).
For the DEBThe selection will continue with its next game at the World Cup in Budapest on Wednesday. It will be against France, kick-off at 19:30 p.m.
The German team had the better start to the game. After just three minutes, Liv Betten and Isabell Manns had a double chance from close range, which was saved by Kiara Matt in the Austrian goal. As the game progressed, the Austrians gained more and more possession. In the twelfth minute, a build-up by the German team failed when Vanessa Picka intercepted a pass on the halfway line and single-handedly scored the 1:0 for Austria. After that, the DEBwomen got back into their game, but were unable to score a goal before the siren.
Right at the start of the second period, the players of U18 women's national coach Sebastian Jones were allowed to play with a power play advantage: Charleen Poindl scored the equalizer with a shot from the second row in the power play (23'). Just five minutes later, Alexandra Boico turned the game around with her goal to make it 2-1 (28'). With a spectacular solo run through the Austrian defense, Boico extended the lead to 3-1 at halftime with her second goal (33').
The German team started the final period with a power play, but was unable to capitalize on it. This was followed by the appearance of a now more courageous team from Austria, which tested Hannah Loist in the German goal several times. Due to the high pressure in defense, it took almost ten minutes before the German team was able to record its first shot on goal. A puck win in the attacking third finally led to the 4:1: Boico converted the rebound after a shot from the blue line by Emilija Birka for a hat trick (58th).
Boico became DEB-Player of the Game.
