The German women’s national team is in the Deutschland Cup started with a win. The opening match against France ended in front of 1.260 Fans with a 4:1 for the DEB-Team. Daria Gleißner, Jule Schiefer, Katharina Häckelsmiller and Emily Nix scored for the team of women's national coach Jeff MacLeod.
The German women started the game quickly, but the French reacted with a few chances of their own. In the middle of the third, penalties piled up on both sides. And so the two goals were scored in the power play. First, Daria Gleißner in a 4-on-3 in the eleventh minute. Only 71 seconds later, Jule Schiefer a shot by Häckelsmiller unstoppably to take a 2-0 lead. Shortly before the break, the guests took advantage of a turnover in the middle third when Lisa Cedelle was free to shoot and Sandra Abstreiter DEBgoal (17th minute).
The second third started again with two penalties (24th) against the DEB-Team: Hanna Weichenhain and Emily Nix had to go to the penalty box in quick succession, but the French were unable to capitalize on their two-man advantage. On the contrary: Schiefer narrowly missed the third goal for Germany with her shot that hit the post while they were outnumbered. Häckelsmiller scored this goal shortly afterwards (32.) after a pass from Feldmeier. The score was 3:1 at the second break.
The German penalty killing was called into action again in the final third, but was able to prevent a second French goal. On the other side, birthday girl Laura Kluge brought the puck in front of the visitors' goal, Emily Nix vconverted the rebound to make it 4-1 (46th minute). The French women became increasingly tired as the game progressed and hardly moved forward. This opened up further opportunities for Kluge, Häckelsmiller and Hadraschek, among others. In the end, the score remained 4-1.
