Welcome to a new edition of the DEB-Podcasts "Coach The Coach"! In this exciting episode, we delve deep into the world of sports psychology and have invited none other than Lothar Linz. Lothar Linz, one of Germany's leading sports psychologists, has accompanied numerous national teams and individual athletes on their way to world championship titles and Olympic gold medals. Since June 01.06.2024, XNUMX, he has been the new director of the Cologne Trainer Academy. Before that, he worked for four years as an expert in the field of mentoring top coaches at the Trainer Academy.
At the beginning of our conversation, we will look at Lothar Linz's career in research and teaching in the university sector. We will then examine his specific career path, which ultimately led him into the world of sports psychology. He will give us his individual definition of a sports psychologist. In the course of this, we will not only take a brief look at the field of brain research, but also discuss the role of the sports psychologist and his relationship with athletes, in comparison to other actors, such as agents.
In the next step, Karl and Lothar discuss the differences between sports psychologists, with a solid degree in psychology or sports psychology, and mental coaches. The two also discuss the relationship construct between players and agents.
Ice hockey is known for its unique culture. Therefore, Karl and Lothar discuss the different cultures in the sport and how these vary from the perspective of a sports psychologist. They shed light on what makes ice hockey stand out from other sports and how these cultural differences influence the work of a sports psychologist.
In the last section, we will look in detail at the topic of the trainer academy and Lothar's new role as director. We are particularly interested in what future developments can be expected in the area of trainer training and what changes Lothar would like to initiate.
