National player Sandra Abstreiter is one of the nominees for the award as Players of the Year 2024 of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHFThe 25-year-old goalkeeper, who is under contract with the PWHL club from Ottawa, was shortlisted for the prestigious award due to her strong performances at the last Women's World Championship in Utica (USA).
Abstreiter had at the tournament Best values achieved and thus formed the basis for the convincing World Cup of the German women: With an average goal conceded of only 1,19 goals per game and a Fangquote of 95 percent convinced the DEBplayer in her five World Cup appearances.
In addition to Sandra Abstreiter, the following players have been nominated for the IIHF award: Alex Carpenter (USA), Kendall Coyne Schofield (USA), Jenni Hiirikoski (FIN), Alina Müller (SUI), Marie-Philip Poulin (CAN) and Natalie Spooner (CAN). The final decision as to who is the IIHF Player of the Year will be announced tomorrow, Tuesday evening, at around 18 p.m.
