Our guest today, Rodion Pauels, has been shaping the history of the Kölner Haie. His journey began in 1995 when he joined the Sharks as head coach and managing director of the entire young talent area. From 2001 to 2004, the Cologne native led the training of the KEC's DNL team and led them to the final of the German Championship three times in a row. As managing director and sporting director, he has remained loyal to the Junghaien to this day. At the beginning of our new episode, we would like to find out why he chose to become a trainer and what motivated him to pursue the role of managing director.
In this episode, Karl and Rodion discuss the ideal development of a player who starts playing the sport at around the age of four. We examine the influence of league-specific rules on the development of young talent players, especially in competition for training opportunities. We also question whether training in the lower leagues could possibly be equally or even more relevant. Rodion, with his decades of experience and expertise, gives us deep and valuable insights into player development in a complex and dynamic environment.
Another extensive topic block is dedicated to the area of trainers. What challenges do you face in the club and how do you deal with them?
Although there are certainly clubs with a better infrastructure than the KEC, let's take a look at which factors determine the success of the KEC and which are fundamental to a long-term success story.
In this episode, we think Rodion gives us deep, exciting and, above all, valuable insights through his many years of experience from which every trainer or official can benefit and learn. We hope you enjoy listening and look forward to next time.
