The game in the sold-out energie schwaben arena in Kaufbeuren started perfectly from a German perspective. Joshua Samanski made it 89-1 after just 0 seconds. For Samanski it was his first goal for the national team. Shortly afterwards, Mario Zimmermann had the opportunity to increase the score to 2-0 while standing free in the slot. But David Hrenak in the visitors' goal saved the shot. It was a fast-paced game with both sides having chances. After nine minutes, the Slovaks equalized through Robert Lantosi, who took advantage of a stick error at the blue line to counterattack and fired the puck into the far corner. Just two minutes later, the Slovaks took the lead. Matthias Plachta was in the penalty box when Oliver Okuliar scored in the power play to make it 2-1 (12th). But that too DEB-Team knew how to use a majority. Andrej Golian had to go out after being tripped up (16th) and the German national team was allowed to play in the majority. Wojciech Stachowiak converted a rebound from close range to make it 2-2 (16th). Shortly before the break DEB-Goalie Tobias Ancicka made a remarkable save when the Slovaks counterattacked again when they were outnumbered.
After the break, things came together DEB-Team continued its game from the first third and was even able to improve over the course of the middle section. A more stable defense left the guests few options and enabled them to build up significantly more pressure going forward. That was to be rewarded in the 27th minute. Just 46 seconds later, with Slovakia temporarily playing on the power play, Wojciech Stachowiak brought the disc over the blue line. Parker Tuomie picked it up and single-handedly made it 4-2 (28th). The Slovaks were still in the majority, and now - 51 seconds after the fifth goal conceded - they used the space on the ice and reduced the score to 4:3 (29th). Justin Schütz restored the old two-goal lead in the 36th minute: Colin Ugbekile scored his third assist of the evening.
78 seconds had been played in the final third when Wojciech Stachowiak moved down the wing in front of the Slovakian goal, which was now occupied by Matej Tomek after the goalkeeper was changed at halftime. Tomek initially defused the German's shot attempt, but Daniel Fischbuch was quicker when he followed up and increased the score to 6:3. In the power play after 42 minutes, the Slovaks had their best opportunity in the first half of the third. Eight minutes before the final whistle, Lukáš Cingel had the fourth goal for the Czechs. However, Tobias Ancicka closed the door and held on to the 6:3 lead. In the power play shortly before the end, the Slovaks managed a 3-on-2 counterattack.
