The first team training session for the second preparatory phase took place late on Tuesday afternoon in the Curt Frenzel Stadium DEB-Selection on the agenda. On Wednesday we continued with the next intensive off- and on-ice unit to prepare for the upcoming international matches against Slovakia. The Slovakian selection is the German team's first preliminary round opponent at the start of the World Cup on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Voices of the DEB-Selection before the games against Slovakia in Kaufbeuren and Augsburg:
National coach Harold Kreis: “The team makes a very committed impression and goes to work with a lot of joy. Yesterday and today we completed two demanding training sessions. The team was also very enthusiastic about this. It is both focused and relaxed work. Our system, the game in the defensive zone and the special teams worked quite well against the Czech team. Among other things, we have worked harder on this to implement these points against the Slovaks even better.”
Defender Marcus Weber: “The training feels good. Here in Augsburg we have great conditions for this in a great stadium. The first training sessions were very good and very fast. The issue of speed was one of the biggest drawbacks in the games against the Czech Republic, and we want to implement that better in the future. Everyone is in a good mood, it's really fun to be here. And now we’re looking forward to the first game against Slovakia tomorrow.”
Striker Marc Michaelis: “It feels good to be here. It's always relaxing to come to the national team. The boys are in a good mood and we always have a good time together. We had good training sessions yesterday and today and are now looking forward to the first game against Slovakia. First and foremost, it will be about finding our own game and our identity. These will be two important games against a very good team. The Slovaks will demand everything from us and that’s exactly why it’s a good test for the upcoming World Cup.”
