The U16 women's national team will compete in the European Cup in Bratislava (SVK) from April 22nd to 26th, 2024. After a successful season with winning the bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games 2024, this measure marks the end of the current season.
The team led by U16 honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner will travel to Bratislava by bus on Sunday, April 21, 2024. A one-hour ice session is scheduled for the evening. The next day, the German U16 young talent selection met the team from Poland at the start of the tournament. The game starts at 11:05 a.m. at the Vladimír Dzurilla Ice Stadium (Bratislava/SVK).
The German Young Talent team plays in Group B against the teams from Poland, France and the Czech Republic. The teams from Austria and Hungary as well as two teams from the hosts from Slovakia play in Group A. Within four days, the nations in their respective group will play three games in free-for-all mode, as well as a final cross-over game against the tied teams from the other group.
U16 honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner: “We will travel to Bratislava with our strongest squad and therefore want to deliver our maximum sporting performance. Some of the players have not been on the ice since the end of the season a few weeks ago; it is important to bring them back to their usual level and form a team unit. We won't have much time for tactical things as we can only complete one training session together before the tournament starts. Our style of play will therefore be based on the Youth Olympics system, which is familiar to the majority of players. Our goal at the European Cup in Bratislava is to finish in the top two of our group and play our best ice hockey in the subsequent placement game.”
