The German men's national team lost 0-3 to the Czech Republic in their first preparation game for the Ice Hockey World Cup next May. 5.549 spectators came to the KV Arena in Karlsbad to watch the game. To the best DEBplayer was named Wojciech Stachowiak.
It took a moment for both teams to get going in this first friendly. The guests managed to do this quicker and after six minutes they had their first chance to score through Roman Cervenka. The first penalty came in the 12th minute: Phil Hungerecker had to go to the penalty box for obstruction. The hosts didn't need long in the power play: David Tomasek held on in the crowd DEBgoal and poked the disc over the line for a 1-0 lead (13th). Shortly before the break, Matthias Plachta was next DEBplayer to the penalty box, but this time the Czechs were unable to benefit from the outnumbered situation. The score went into the first break 1-0.
After that, the team of national coach Harold Kreis came out of the locker room with momentum and was able to make its first offensive moves right at the start of the third. Alexander Ehl's chance was the best opportunity to equalize in the early stages. The hosts of the upcoming World Cup also created further scoring opportunities. Cervenka's shot was blocked by Fabio Wagner. But it was the hosts who scored again. The Czechs took full advantage of the lack of assignment after a substitution by the Germans and David Tomasek scored his second goal of the evening to make it 2-0 (34th minute). Shortly before the second break, the referees awarded two penalties to the Czech Republic. The two-man advantage could not be achieved by the DEBBut don't use the team to score.
After the break, the Czechs started the game with more force and pushed for the preliminary decision. However, Ancicka fended off all of the hosts' efforts time and time again and kept his team within striking distance. But the Czechs controlled the game with their lead and left little chance for that DEBteam too. Luis Schinko narrowly missed the goal two minutes before the end. Harold Kreis took Ancicka off the ice for the sixth man with 72 seconds left. The desired effect did not materialize. Instead, Tomasek sealed the 3-0 win for the Czech Republic with his third goal of the evening.
