The U16 women's national team won the bronze medal at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea. The team led by honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner defeated the Swiss young talent selection 3-1 in the game for third place. Goal scorers on the German side were Emilija Birka (4th), Theresa Zielinski (5th) and Hanna Weichenhain (45th).
Honorary national coach Christoph Höhenleitner:“The players fought passionately from the first minute. We particularly dominated the first third and it could have been even higher for us. After that, the Swiss got into the game a little better, but we didn't let the game get out of our hands. It is a completely deserved bronze medal win and I am very happy for the team and the entire staff.”
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “This is really a great success and very important for women’s and girls’ ice hockey in Germany. This will give our sport another boost, especially in the young talent area. I’m happy for the players and the entire team that they can experience this success together.”
