After the first preparation phase and two test matches against Switzerland in Ostallgäu, this happens DEBThe U20 team will then travel together to Sweden on December 18, 2023. On the evening of December 19th and December 22nd, 2023, the German team will face the teams from Norway and Slovakia in two further preparatory games in Gothenburg before the U26 World Cup officially begins on December 20th.
U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter: “We put together the current squad based on the experience we have gained so far. The players who have now received an invitation to prepare for the World Cup have impressed with their good performances during the final measures and have therefore earned their nomination. There are two games against Switzerland in our preparation week in Füssen and we want to develop further as a team. Of course, it's also, that's very clear, about the battle for squad places, because after these games we will have to reduce the squad from 28 players to 25 before we decide on the final World Cup squad of 23 players in Sweden.
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “We are looking forward to the upcoming tournament. The U20 World Cup offers our young talent a big stage on which the players can prove themselves and develop further. It is important to take on the challenges in the international arena together and achieve the best possible result as a team at the highlight of the season.”
