The German national ice hockey team has won for the third time in a row and for the tenth time overall Deutschland-Cup won. In front of 4.200 spectators, Slovakia won the final game of this year's tournament 2-1. Captain Leo Pföderl scored for national coach Harald Kreis' team.
Due to the equal points between the first three teams, a new table was calculated between them. The games against Austria were not taken into account here. The DEB-Team has the better goal difference in the new table and therefore wins the tournament.
The start of the game went well for them DEB-Selection not according to plan. The Slovaks were able to take the lead after just 66 seconds when Matej Kaslik made it 0-1 with a direct shot after winning the face-off. Shortly afterwards, Tobias Fohrler had to go to the penalty box for tripping. The concentrated penalty killing of the DEB-Teams allowed little, so the score remained 0:1. With a full team, Germany found their stride again and had their first chances through Manuel Wiederer (5th minute). On the other side, Florian Bugl, who was in the German goal today, had to intervene again when Slovakia scored from close range. Lukas Kälble had the best chance up to that point in the 12th minute with his slap shot from the high slot. Shortly afterwards, Leo Pföderl, standing at the far post, also narrowly missed the goal.
The second third began with a similarly high pace as in the first section. In the 35th minute, Leo Pföderl again had the best chance in the first German power play, but shot over the empty goal. Thanks to another good outnumbered game, the Slovaks' following power play did not pose any major danger to Bugl. As the game progressed it was an ups and downs, with little danger for the goalkeepers. Again it was Leo Pföderl who moved in front of the Slovakian goal, but was denied by Samuel Hlavaj. In the same sequence, the disc then falls to Colin Ugbekile, and the goalie is able to parry his slap shot again. The middle third ended goalless.
This had to happen right at the beginning of the final third DEB-Team accepts a penalty for having too many players. In the power play, the Slovaks initially hit the crossbar, but were able to score the second goal ten seconds before the end of the penalty through Lukas Cingel. The DEBThe team continued to play with commitment after the goal and Pföderl missed the next goal. The DEBThe team continued to press for an equalizer, but for a long time found no way to break through the Slovakian defense. Their power play efforts also failed because of Hlavaj or their own inaccuracy, until Leo Pföderl finally scored to make it 1:2. Manuel Wiederer had the equalizer on his stick just before the end. However, the narrow result was enough to win the tournament.
