The U18 and A women's national teams of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) suffered two tournament defeats in Füssen and Kloten, Switzerland, respectively last week. In the 4-nation tournament, the team led by women's national coach Jeff MacLeod competed against the teams from France (0:1) and Hungary (0:4). However, the third game against the hosts from Switzerland, scheduled for last Saturday, had to be canceled at short notice. The reason for this was an acute gastrointestinal illness DEB-Team.
The German U18 women's national team was also unable to achieve any success over the weekend. The young talent team led by U18 women's national coach Franziska Busch had to admit defeat in the games against Hungary on Friday (0:2) and against Italy on Sunday (1:3).
Women's national coach Jeff MacLeod: “We introduced a team structure and a common strategy with a young squad this week. We had good preparation for both games and also felt that we were able to use the scouting preparations to prepare for both France and Hungary. Our game against France was even. We made some adjustments between game periods. Our special teams were also well structured and only needed a small review after the game. We played better against Hungary and used our speed with hard, quick puck movements. We have prepared ourselves to launch more attacks and shots at the opponent's goal. We performed well overall until the middle of the final third. However, both the lack of concentration and lack of discipline in the game led to a negative result. We are now looking forward, will continue to improve in all areas of our game and then look forward to our next tournament in Landshut.”
U18 women’s national coach Franziska Busch: “Overall, it was noticeable that the players weren’t quite in the rhythm of the game yet. We had some new and younger players with us, for them it was their first U18 international matches, which of course was noticeable. However, we got better and better over the games from time to time. All in all, we're of course not happy if you don't win twice, but there were also good things to see that we can build on. The week was very intense for the team. We had different training content, including a team afternoon, which I think was very important for the team. Especially since vintages are dropping out and people are regrouping. But I think we are on the right track. We saw what we still have to work on and at the same time noticed that a lot of things had already been implemented well within this week.”
