The German U16 men completed the 4-nation tournament in Füssen with one win and two defeats. U16 national coach Robin Becker's selection played in three consecutive games from Wednesday to Friday against the national teams from Austria, Slovakia and Switzerland.
For the U16 team, the tournament was the first test of strength at international level in the new 2023/2024 season. After there was no success to celebrate on the first two days of the tournament (3:4 against Austria, 1:6 against Slovakia), the DEB-Selection concluded with a 3-1 win against Switzerland.
The next U16 event is a tournament in Vierumäki (FIN) next October.
U16 national coach Robin Beckers: “In general, we started the tournament well, but then, under pressure from the opposition, we revealed some problems in the build-up game and showed habits that were not desirable for us, which we as a coaching team addressed directly. In this respect, we are satisfied with the development over the course of the tournament because, especially in the win against Switzerland, we were able to see how the team implemented our input. Individual players have improved, our game overall was more straightforward and less playful than at the start of the three days. For the coaching team, it was an instructive and pleasant time with the team because the players and staff around the team worked together harmoniously and in a goal-oriented manner. That made it easier for me personally to start the new season.”
