Yesterday, Friday, the German U18 team said goodbye to this year's Hlinka Gretzky Cup with a win against co-hosts Slovakia. This means that the team led by national coach Tobias Abstreiter takes seventh place in the final rankings.
The U18 national team fought for a deserved 6:4 victory in the game for seventh place. The goal scorers for the German team were Felix Kerbel, Elias Pul, Nick Maul, Clemens Sager and Manuel Schams.
After three preliminary round defeats, the DEB-Young talent selection can therefore look forward to a positive tournament conclusion.
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast and men's national coach Harold Kreis were also on site for large parts of the tournament to support the young talent team and the coaching staff.
U20 national coach Tobias Abstreiter: “It was an important tournament for the team. Everyone was able to learn a lot here and saw how you have to play internationally so that you have a chance of winning games. In the end, the boys were able to reward themselves for their hard work. This is really a very valuable experience that such young players can take with them for the upcoming season and their sporting future.”
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “Participation in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup showed us that we are currently not able to play internationally for over 60 minutes at the level that would be required to win several games. For us, but especially for the players, the knowledge we were all able to gather here is very valuable. It is important to draw the right conclusions for the future so that we can continue to improve and not allow the gap to widen.”
