In July 2022, our guest today, Günter Oswald, was appointed the new Managing Director Academy & Youth at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy in Salzburg. As a former DEL professional and player agent, the 54-year-old brings a large repertoire of expertise to the Red Bulls.
At the beginning we devote a little more time to Günter's biography in order to better understand all the connections and later career decisions.
Our podcast host Karl first talks to Günter about the experiences he had as a player that influenced his later career as a player agent. We are particularly interested in Günter's reasons for pursuing this career path and what personal characteristics, perspectives and approaches were and are still important to him today. We gain exciting insights into how he defines himself and his field of responsibility and what sets him apart from other consultants.
After just a short time in conversation with Günter, it becomes clear that long-term and sustainable player development is very important to him. You can find out what this model looks like in practice in the first section of the new episode.
We dedicate the second half to the topic of Red Bull. We not only find out what prompted Günter to take up the new position as Managing Director Academy & Youth, but also what exactly his job profile looks like. Which elementary building blocks and structures are necessary to ensure the best possible player development? Günter can answer this question clearly: accommodation, nutrition, school, off-ice area, on-ice area, medical area, training and game operations, and the entire back office area. This is the large structure whose elements must work together and act according to a common “development line”. One of the things we're interested in is how he would put these building blocks together for a smaller organization with fewer resources. Finally, we also gain valuable insights into this Red Bull Salzburg Recruitment and application system.
Listen in, because more captivating topics await you in our new episode.
