Voices before the next World Cup double match day:
National coach Harold Kreis: “The first day off was very important for physical and mental recovery and the joint team event was also a successful change for the players. Today we returned to training to prepare ourselves optimally for the upcoming game. Of course, we analyzed the Danes' game in detail at five-on-five and also their good power play. Today we also practiced outnumbering and undernumbering again, among other things. “
Goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger: "The mood is good overall. Of course we were annoyed at first that we hadn't been able to score any points, but on the other hand we also gained confidence because we played so well, were so close and dominated our opponents at times. Now it was important that we cleared our heads again and we managed that well, among other things, with the team event. Today in training you could see that everyone is already focused and ready for tomorrow. We know what our task is and now we want to get our first win."
Defender Fabio Wagner: “It was good to clear my head for another two days. We had another good final training session today. The mood in the team is good. There are very important games coming up for us now and we want to get a good start to the game tomorrow.”
Statement on the discussions with NHL striker Leon Draisaitl regarding the ongoing 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup:
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “We had a detailed conversation with Leon, for which we thank you. First of all, we have the greatest respect for his outstanding performance with the Edmonton Oilers, which he showed throughout the entire NHL season, including the intense playoffs. After 92 NHL games including two intense series, he now simply needs time to recover from the exertion and regenerate physically. Especially since there are also exit meetings and media appointments with the Oilers on site. Therefore, it is not possible to participate in the World Cup in such a short time. We have fully understood his role with the Oilers and wish him a good recovery after the season.”
