The German national ice hockey team lost 3:6 against Team USA in the last test match before the Ice Hockey World Cup in Tampere. For the Americans it was the first test in the run-up to the World Cup.
This came after a slow start DEBteam got into the game well after three minutes at the Olympic Ice Sports Center in Munich and created their first opportunities. In the eighth minute, JJ Peterka narrowly missed the lead after a nice combination from Marco Nowak and Dominik Kahun. A short time later, Daniel Fischbuch had another opportunity for the German lead. But the guests managed to score the first goal: US striker Drew O'Connor drew the German defense towards him and then passed the puck back to the onrushing Ronnie Attard. The defender made it 1-0 with a well-aimed shot (14th). JJ Peterka then appeared alone in front of US goalie Casey DeSmith, who was able to defuse the German goal chance. In the 16th minute, Carter Mazar tied up two defenders again, giving Drew O'Connor enough space to make it 2-0. Shortly before the break there was the first penalty against the team of national coach Harold Kreis, Tobias Fohrler had to go to the penalty box for two minutes for hooking. But a short time later, Conor Garland also had to pause for two minutes on the visitors' side. Both outnumbered situations resulted in nothing countable and so the USA went into the first break with a 2-0 lead.
At the beginning of the second third, the USA tied it up DEBteam in their own third and significantly increased the pressure on the German goal. But the German defense managed to keep the Americans away from the goal. Maximilian Kastner provided it DEB-Selection regained some breathing room with a break in the 25th minute. As a result, a fast and open game developed with dangerous scenes for the goalkeepers, with Kastner only hitting the post in the 28th minute. After the first half of the game, the guests changed the goalkeeper: Cal Petersen from then on played in the American goal and had to immediately prevent a chance for the German men's national team. In the 33rd minute, the Americans managed a quick breakout. Conor Garland took advantage of the counterattack and fired the puck unstoppably into the far corner to make it 3-0. After a hit on the FanHanded by Mathias Niederberger, Tobias Fohrler went into a fist fight against Alex Tuch. Both players subsequently received a game misconduct penalty and had to leave the game, as did Nico Sturm shortly before the second break. After an elbow check, the striker also received a game misconduct penalty.
So the final section began with a nearly five-minute outnumbered situation for the DEB-Team, which remained without consequences thanks to a disciplined penalty killing by the German team. After the long US power play, they succeeded DEBteam to set the tone at the front again. Dominik Kahun was denied by US goalie Petersen in the 47th minute, but two minutes later he made the 5.028 spectators cheer for the first time after a solo effort. The goal brought new momentum into the German game. Once again it was Dominik Kahun who reduced the score to 55:2 with his second goal in the 3th minute. But the Americans had the right answer through Drew O'Connor just twelve seconds later and extended their lead again. Things continued in quick succession: Daniel Fischbuch scored another goal to make it 57-3 in the 4th minute. But again the Americans promptly retaliated. Rocco Grimaldi made it 5:3 for the USA with a remarkable turn and a backhand shot. The sixth US goal by Sammy Walker came when DEB- Goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger had already left his goal for a sixth field player. The game in Munich ended with 3:6.
After the 60 minutes had been played, there was an extra time agreed between the teams and a penalty shootout for training purposes. The guests could decide for themselves both.
