The U16 women's national team will take part in the European Cup in Budapest (HUN) from April 19 to 23, 2023. The tournament is a valuable opportunity for the players to get a taste of competition against the top young talent teams from major European ice hockey nations.
After a joint ice session on Monday in Füssen, the team led by U18 national coach Franziska Busch went to Budapest the following day. The U16 women had another session on the ice on site before the opening game against Norway on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
The German Young Talent team plays in Group A against the teams from the Czech Republic, France and Norway. The teams from Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria and the hosts from Hungary play in Group B. Within four days, the nations within their group will play three games in a free-for-all format, as well as a final cross-over game against the tied teams from the other group.
The German U16 women will play their opening game against Norway on April 19, 2023 at 11.30:XNUMX a.m. in the Mátyásföldi Ice Hall.

It is a good opportunity for us to see the players again in their current level of performance and development and in an international comparison. In addition to players from the U16 core vintages of 2007 and 2008, the squad also includes players from the 2009 vintage who were able to recommend themselves in the measures this season.”
Bundeswehr trainer Jennifer Harss: “The tournament is very well attended. It is extremely important for us to gain as much international experience as possible. Match practice at a high level is intended to bring us together better as a team, both athletically and as a team. With Norway and France we have equal group opponents, whereas the Czech Republic can be considered very strong. They were able to win gold at this year’s European Youth Olympic Festival.”
