At the end of the first week together of World Cup preparations, the German national team met the Czech Republic for the second time. In front of 5.108 spectators in the Frankfurt ice rink, the international match ended 1:5. Goal scorer for the DEB-Selection was Dominik Bokk (55th).
Tobias Ancicka made his first World Cup preparation appearance in goal, while Florian Bugl was available as a backup. In defense, Frankfurt native Moritz Wirth celebrated his first senior international match. Marco Nowak took a break, while Daniel Schmölz was still slightly ill and was unable to take part. As captain, Marcel Noebels led the team on the/that? Ice.
The guests got off to a better start in the game. After less than two minutes, Jakub Flek scored for his team. The German team quickly recovered from this and gradually worked their way into the game. The German team had to put in a lot of effort to create chances against the Czechs' compact back line. Both teams were also awarded a power play, but no further goals were scored.
In the second period, both teams did a good job of closing the neutral zone. The German defense left little room for development for the Czechs. But the guests also did their homework in their own zone, so that the German team only had a few clear chances to score until the half of the game. There were good chances in the second power play, but Marcel Noebels' shots missed the goal twice. And as it so often happens: almost in return, David Tomasek (36th) increased the lead for the Czech Republic. A little later, Parker Tuomie skillfully prevailed, but Stepan Lukes was also able to thwart his solo effort in the Czech goal.
Even in the final section, the disc on the German side simply didn't want to get into the net. On the other hand, the Czechs took advantage of their chances with a double strike. First, Michael Spacek (47th) increased the score to 3-0 for the guests, shortly afterwards Radan Lenc (49th) was successful. Five minutes before the end, the German team scored their first goal; Dominik Bokk scored in the majority, assisted by Marcel Noebels and Jonas Müller. However, the Czech Republic brought the final point with the 1:5 from the German perspective around two minutes before the end.
Voices about the game
National coach Harold Kreis: "Of course we weren't happy with the result today either. I thought we had some good moves, but then gave the puck away too easily when moving forward. You could see that the players wanted to do well, which made it a little too complicated in some places. We could have perhaps just shot directly at the goal one or two times. Overall, it was a good opportunity for the coaching staff to get an idea of the team. We will now work on phase one and then look forward to phase two."
Striker Dominik Bokk: “It was of course cool to come back to the ice rink. The result, however, was of course not that great. Of course you always want to win the game, but I think we made it a little too easy for the Czechs today. We made too many mistakes of our own and you can't do that against a team like the Czech Republic, they'll take advantage of the mistakes coldly."
Defender Moritz Wirth: “It was an amazing feeling to play my first international match today. The whole day was a chaos of emotions and I didn't really know how to go into the game. But I was in good spirits relatively quickly and got straight into the game.”
