The German women's national team prevailed in their second test match last evening and secured their first test match win against Hungary with a 1-0 (0:0, 0:1, 0:0). Striker Sonja Weidenfelder scored the goal of the successful dress rehearsal in the test against the later opponents in Group B thanks to the preparatory work of Ronja Hark (32nd minute). Sandra Abstreiter parried 28 shots from her opponents in this game and ultimately secured the win with a shutout. The German team around women's national coach Thomas Schädler starts their first World Cup game against the Swedes on Thursday (17 p.m. German time live and free on Magenta Sport).
Women's national coach Thomas Schädler: "We had an intense day yesterday, which was noticeable in the first five minutes, where we needed time to get into the game. But then we improved, increased the intensity and created many scoring opportunities. It is of course good for us to have this first win. We now have three days until the World Cup, where we need to keep working and improve in some areas. However, this game gives us a lot of confidence for the opening match against Sweden."
MagentaSport will show all German World Cup matches as well as the final of the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Canada live and free of charge.
