Women's national coach Thomas Schädler has announced the final squad for the upcoming Women's World Cup (April 05 to 17, 2023) in Brampton, Canada. Tomorrow, Saturday, a large part of the German team will meet for a short preparation including six training sessions at the national base in Füssen before heading to Canada next Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
A total of 23 players (three goalkeepers, seven defenders, 13 strikers) made it into the final selection of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund. V (DEB). Sandra Abstreiter (Providence College), Nina Jobst-Smith (University of Minnesota/Duluth), Luisa and Lilli Welcke (Maine University) as well as Sonja Vogt (St. Cloud University) and Nina Christof (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) will join directly in the final preparation of the German team in Barrie. Women's national coach Thomas Schädler and his team are expecting six more joint ice sessions as well as two test games against Switzerland (March 31.03) and Hungary (April 02.04) before the start of the World Cup.
From April 06th, 2023, the German women's national team will meet Sweden (April 06.04th / German 17 p.m.), Finland (April 07.04th / German 21 p.m.), France (April 09.04th) in the preliminary round group B tournament at the CAA Center in Brampton. / German 01 a.m. + 1) and Hungary (11.04. / German 17 p.m.). Even though the squad in Füssen is not yet complete due to the lack of players from overseas, we want to go through our system in the ice sessions and work particularly on our power play. In the final phase in Canada, we want to continue from there and also find our line-up in the test matches against Switzerland and Hungary. With Tanja Eisenschmid, we will be missing a very experienced player who we would have liked to have had with us. We have had regular and intensive exchanges with her in recent weeks. Unfortunately, she is not physically fit enough to take part in a tournament at the moment. We are of course very sorry about this, but we still have to think first and foremost about the player's health."
