The Deutscher Eishockey-Bund e. V (DEB) as well as the German ice hockey and inline family mourns the death of Eckard “Ecki” Schindler. The long-standing international anti-doping representative of the DEB died at the age of 72 after a short, serious illness.
He made it his mission to promote clean sport. With this intention he has it DEB Over the last few years, it has become a model association in the fight against doping and through various prevention initiatives DEB-Members achieved a high level of willingness to cooperate.
Before Eckard Schindler acted as team manager of the national team in the years surrounding the 2001 home World Cup, he played for SC Riessersee, Augsburger EV, Kölner EC and for the ESV Kaufbeuren, at a high level in the ice hockey Bundesliga.
Eckard Schilder was also active in inline hockey for many years. As an inline representative of the DEB Eckard Schindler successfully organized and represented several IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships in Germany DEB in the inline hockey working group in the Competition Committee at the IIHF.
“The news is deeply touching. Ecki was not only a great player and friend, but also an incredibly reliable, loyal and fully committed supporter of ice hockey for decades - nationally and internationally. My thoughts are with his family,” said his long-time companion and friend, Franz Reindl, in dismay.
Also deeply dismayed is Dr. Peter Merten, DEB-President: “It was with great shock that we learned of the sudden death of Eckard Schindler. The news hit us unexpectedly and hard. It represents a great loss for us. With Eckard Schindler we have lost a personality who not only shaped our association, but also German ice hockey and inline hockey for many years. Our thoughts are with his family and other relatives.”
