Second game, second win for the national team Deutschland Cup 2022: National coach Toni Söderholm's team won 3-0 against Austria on Saturday evening. Goal scorers for the DEBThe selections were Andreas Eder (6th), Tobias Eder (18th) and Danjo Leonhardt (29th).
As expected, national coach Toni Söderholm changed the lineup. This is how Tim Fleischer, Danjo Leonhardt and Justin Schütz made their first appearances at the Deutschland Cup 2022, and defender Eric Mik also made his debut with the men's national team. Dustin Strahlmeier made his second tournament appearance in goal. Defender Marco Nowak had to leave early due to illness. In addition, defender Janik Möser had to leave the ice in the first period due to an injury.
Derby time in Krefeld: Against Austria, it was a tough match from the start. After just a few minutes, the first hard checks were being dealt on both sides. Germany also managed to take the lead during this phase through Andreas Eder's goal (6th minute). In the 9th minute, Daniel Schmölz was involved in a fistfight, which DEBThe striker and his opponent Simeon Schwinger then had to leave the ice with a game misconduct penalty. Shortly before the break, Germany struck again with another goal: Tobi Eder (18th) increased the score to 2-0 in the power play.
The second third was much more competitive, also because the Austrians increased their attacking efforts. The DEBThe selection also worked concentratedly in this section and only allowed a few chances, all of which Dustin Strahlmeier was able to fend off. The German game also remained dangerous on the offensive: Danjo Leonhardt (29th) used one of these good offensive moves to extend the lead.
In the last 20 minutes the game continued to be fast-paced. In the end, however, the score should remain 3-0 from a German perspective.
National coach Toni Söderholm: “It was a strong game from the boys. The first third in particular was very solid. The team had a lot of control of the game here. That was a good starting point for the game. We lost track a bit at times, but overall I have to praise the team once again. The boys deserved to win.”
Striker Andreas Eder: “I think we played an incredibly good first third and perhaps surprised the Austrians a bit. We played very well with the advantage and scored the goals at the right time in the first third. And then added one more in the second third. We defended very well in the final third and deserved to win. At the end of the day it's about getting better little by little. The fact that we have two wins now is of course great and if we play another good game, we can win the third game too.”
Striker Danjo Leonhardt: “I think we had a good pace in the game. The Austrians also brought in a lot of speed. But we accepted it very well and brought in a lot of quality with our young team. Experienced players led us well and now we are of course happy about the win and the shutout for Strahlmeier.”
