In Episode 37 we return to the realm of science. Our host Karl Schwarzenbrunner had the opportunity to speak with today's guest at the meeting of the science coordinators (WIKO) of all German top sports associations in Frankfurt.
These so-called WIKOs, like Karl, are responsible for the transfer and implementation of scientific findings into training practice. Our guest today, Sebastian Prenger, is always on site at these meetings to exchange ideas with representatives of the top sports associations. Sebastian is head of the sports technology department at the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp) in Bonn. Among other things, he is the contact person for sports technology, innovation networks and innovation projects in top-class sport.
Sebastian first introduces us to the BISp and its tasks. Before he gives us deeper insights into the so-called WISS network, We I Innovation in top-class sport. He explains to us what is behind the innovation network, with partners from business, sports practice, technology and science, and why everyone in German sport should use this network. He also gives us an insight into how the WISS network has changed over the years and how collaboration and exchange can be promoted on such platforms.
As the episode continues, Karl would also like to know how Sebastian defines innovations and whether they always only have positive effects per se. This gives rise to the opportunity to talk about Sebastian's experiences with failed innovations, for example, what are the biggest predictors of innovation failure?
With Sebastian we not only have a passion for sport, but also for the wonderful sport of ice hockey. As a young talent trainer at EHC Troisdorf, he talks to us about the balance between full-time job and coaching job. He also tells us how he fulfills his role as a father and at the same time a coach for his kids.
Karl wouldn't be Karl if he didn't ask a few questions about the future. Finally, he talks to Sebastian about what it would be like for Sebastian if his children stopped playing ice hockey tomorrow. And last but not least, asks what the innovation culture in Germany might look like in 5-10 years and where Sebastian sees himself as a trainer during this time.
