Four players from overseas join in Phase 4
Starting today, Thursday, the ice hockey stronghold of Schwenningen on the edge of the Black Forest will host the German national ice hockey team in the fourth and final phase of preparation for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland. The German team's final test match against the Austrian team is also on the program in the Helios Arena there on Sunday afternoon (May 08.05th, 17 p.m., live on SPORT1 and MagentaSport). In phase four, the team can be strengthened by a number of national players with a lot of experience and some players from overseas. The long-time captain Moritz Müller (Kölner Haie) is also there in Schwenningen, as are Korbinian Holzer and Matthias Plachta (both Adler Mannheim) or Dominik Bittner (Grizzlys Wolfsburg). The trio Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken), Moritz Seider (Detroit Red Wings) and Tim Stützle (Ottawa Senators) come to the preparation camp from the North American professional league NHL and Marc Michaelis (Toronto Marlies) joins them from the American Hockey League (AHL). Compared to the previous phases, Tim Wohlgemuth (Adler Mannheim) and Dustin Strahlmeier (Grizzlys Wolfsburg) is new, Marcus Weber (Nürnberg Ice Tigers).
The coaching team for phase four and the World Cup consists of national coach Toni Söderholm, assistants Tom Rowe, Jessica Campbell and Cory Murphy, goalkeeping coach Ilpo Kauhanan and video coach Erik Elenz.

After the game in Schwenningen, the team has a day off from training on Monday before leaving for Helskinki on Tuesday (May 10, 2022). This starts on May 13, 2022 (Friday). DEBteam will start the World Cup with a match against Canada. The match starts at 19:20 p.m. (CEST), SPORT1 and MagentaSport will broadcast live.
