The German national ice hockey team lost 24-2 to Slovakia in the second game within 3 hours at the Joynext Arena in Dresden. The hosts took the lead twice through Tim Fleischer and Taro Jentzsch, the Slovaks equalized twice and then scored the winning goal four minutes before the end.
The German team was better off in this game from the start than on Friday. Toni Söderholm's boys got into the duels better and also had one or two scoring chances. With a power-play goal in the 15th minute of the game, Nuremberg's Tim Fleischer put his colors in the lead. Alex Blank caught the puck strongly while forechecking and played it back in front of the goal to Fleischer, who scored his first international goal. Unfortunately, this lead only lasted three minutes. Then it was the Slovakian Lantosi who also equalized with a hammer in the majority and overcame Andy Jenike, who was in goal this time, for the first time.
In the second third it was similar to section 1. The power play around Blank, Fleischer and Taro Jentzsch put the Germans in the lead. This time it was Jentzsch from Noch-Iserlohn who poked the puck over the line at the left post. The 2-2 equalizer followed even faster. Pospisil equalized the score just 44 seconds later.
In the final third the match was still evenly matched. There were repeated scoring opportunities on both sides, but Jenike and Rybar had a good day. However, in the 57th minute the decision was made in favor of the guests. Ceresnak had a hand in the game again (3rd assist of the game) and Okuliar was the winning goal scorer in the end.
The World Cup dress rehearsal will now follow on May 8, 2022 at 17 p.m. in the Helios Arena in Schwenningen. Tickets are still available at www.deb-online.de/tickets. The match will be broadcast on MagentaSport and SPORT1.
Voices about the game
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “These were two very fast-paced games here in Dresden against a strong team. We now have a few days to put together the squad for the final phase of preparation.”
National coach Toni Söderholm: “The way the players presented themselves here is good for us despite the defeats. Those were two very energetic performances, especially today. We also pushed for victory. You have to play ice hockey with your pulse if you want to develop further, whether as a team or as an individual player.”
Germany striker Alexander Ehl about today's game: "I think we learned a lot from the two games. Today we were ready to go into the duels from the start. In the end it was annoying that we conceded a goal. We have to play our game for 60 minutes and then it will work out in the future."
