Due to the serious disruption to Young Talent ice hockey last season due to COVID19, the clubs could not be assessed as part of the 5-star program. This year certification was possible again. A total of stars were distributed to 58 clubs and 834.000 euros will be distributed.
The player development experts Ullrich Liebsch (PENNY DEL), Marius Riedel (DEL2) and Ernst Höfner (DEB) distributed a total of 188 stars as part of their analyzes and evaluations based on a defined catalog. 13 clubs received 5 stars, 12 clubs received 4 stars, 17 received 3 stars, 3 times received 2 stars and 13 times received 1 star.
Ernst Höfner, DEB-Head coach club and talent support: "After we had to suspend certification last year due to the pandemic, we are happy that it was possible this season. The clubs have shown exemplary commitment to young talent. We have almost reached the level we had before Corona, both at the top and across the board."
Uli Liebsch, Association of German Ice Hockey Young Talent (PENNY DEL): “Despite adversities caused by the pandemic, training and games were largely able to be carried out in all clubs. We have achieved the goal in the star program of reaching the level before Corona. Now it’s time to further advance the quantity and quality of player development.”
Marius Riedel, talent and location development DEL2: "The clubs have improved significantly since the last certification, despite the Corona pandemic, which has made many things more difficult. I find it very gratifying that the people responsible are investing so much energy, time and money in the 5-star program and I am sure that German ice hockey will continue to develop excellently as a result."
The young talent work of German ice hockey clubs has been certified in the star program since 2015. They are evaluated according to criteria such as ice times, full-time trainers or attractive offers for getting to know the sport of ice hockey and then receive corresponding amounts as training compensation.
