Ten world championships, one Olympic silver medal, 173 international matches for the DEB with 17 goals and 36 assists (53 scorer points): After 16 years in the national ice hockey team, Yannic Seidenberg is stepping down. We look back on his career – and take our hats off to a real record player.
Highlight of his international career: the 2018 Olympics
In 2006 he made his first World Championship appearance for the national team of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) – and a successful, 16-year career in the national ice hockey team followed. Yannic Seidenberg played in a total of ten World Championships. His only participation in the Olympics is unforgettable, and was remembered not only by enthusiastic ice hockey fans.Fans Remember: At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Seidenberg and his teammates sensationally won the silver medal.
Yannic Seidenberg: “After more than 16 years, it is time to make room for the younger players in the national team. I was able to play for my country at ten World Cups and the 2018 Olympic Games. The many wonderful memories of this time will stay with me for the rest of my life. Now I would like to take care of my family even more in the summer months and put my full sporting focus on Red Bull Munich. I would like to thank all the coaches, teammates and supervisors with whom I played over these many years and who made this time so wonderful.”
DEL professional debut on September 7, 2001 – and the career continues
Put the ice hockey stick in the very corner? That is out of the question for the Schwenningen native. Yannic Seidenberg has been playing in the German Ice Hockey League for over 20 years - with stints at the Adler Mannheim, among others Kölner Haien and that ERC Ingolstadt. The defender has been with the club since 2013 EHC Red Bull München – and has won the championship title three times with the Munich team. With 1.090 DEL games, Seidenberg is one of the record players in the PENNY DEL.
DEB-President Franz Reindl: “I have great understanding and respect for Yannic’s resignation. His career as a national player in all age groups was formative for the development of our sport. He is a Para"Example of versatility, commitment, reliability and success, crowned with the silver medal in 2018. We have a lot to thank him for, I hope he stays active in the league for a long time and stays involved in ice hockey later on."
Even concussions, a torn cruciate ligament and other injuries did not stop Yannic Seidenberg from continuing to pursue his passion for ice hockey. For many years, Seidenberg was known as the league’s “poisonous oatmeal”. As a father of three, he is calmer today, as he said in an interview.
He's not thinking about quitting yet - "As long as my body cooperates and I keep having fun," Seidenberg wants to get on the ice. We look forward to seeing him continue to play – and thank him for his fighting commitment in 16 years with the national team.
All the best, dear Yannic, for your future goals in your private and professional life!
