This year's final in the German Women's Ice Hockey League (DFEL) starts tomorrow, Saturday (March 12th), at the Hühnerberg ice stadium in Memmingen on the edge of the Allgäu. At 17:15 p.m. the specially designed final puck will be thrown in for the first face-off of the best-of-5 series.
The ECDC Memmingen (second in the main round, 3-1 winners against the Mad Dogs Mannheim) and the ERC Ingolstadt (Fourth in the main round, 3-0 series wins against the defending champions from ESC Planegg-Würmta).
In the main round, both teams faced each other four times. At the end of September, Ingolstadt won both comparisons (4:2, 3:2 nV). In mid-November, Ingolstadt won the away game in Memmingen 5-1. The Maustadt women took revenge the next day with a 3-1 win against the Schanzer Panthers.
Waldemar Dietrich, head coach Memmingen: “Similar to the series against Mannheim, there is no clear favorite for me. All games were decided by just one goal difference. It's definitely going to be that close now
again."
Christian Sohlmann, head coach Ingolstadt: "The squads that will now meet in the final are completely different from those that faced each other during the main round. A lot has changed on both sides."
Daria Gleißner, captain Memmingen: "I really like the best-of-5 format. It's very intense. I'm really enjoying it and I'm looking forward to best-of-5 playoffs in the future."
Tanja Eisenschmid, captain Ingolstadt: "The anticipation for the final is great, just as the joy of winning the semi-final was great. We want to win and we are ready to do so!"
