ESC Planegg-Würmtal is the main round champion of the German Women's Ice Hockey League (DFEL) in the 2021/22 season. In the end, the team led by captain Mona Pink had collected over 2,4 points per game, 0,4 more than ECDC Memmingen in second place and the Mad Dogs Mannheim in 3rd place. Last year's main round winners from ERC Ingolstadt ended up in fourth place this season.
The DFEL's top scorer was national team captain Julia Zorn (ESC Planegg) with 27 goals and 20 assists in 22 games. Laura Kluge (ECDC Memmingen) came in second with 2 goals and 16 assists in 23 matches. Tanja Eisenschmid won the title of defender with the best points ERC Ingolstadt. She scored six goals herself and set up 28 times for her teammates. Statistically, the best goalkeeper was Lisa Hemmerle, who moved from Planegg to Ingolstadt during the season. She only conceded one goal per game, blocked 95 percent of the shots on goal and recorded seven (!) shutouts, one more than all other goalkeepers in the DFEL combined.
In the upcoming best-of-5 playoffs, Planegg has home advantage against Ingolstadt in the semi-finals, while Memmingen starts at home against Mannheim. The first two semi-final games start on the weekend of February 26th and 27th, 2022. While Planegg and Ingolstadt play the games with alternating home advantage, Memmingen will first play twice at home against Mannheim due to the distance and then travel to the square city for game 3 and a possible game 4.
The finals start on March 12, 2022. The champions will then be determined by March 27, 2022 at the latest. The placement round for places 5-7 will be canceled after consultation with the clubs.
