Saturday, February 12th, 15 p.m.: Comments on the game between Germany and China
National coach Toni Söderholm: "Apart from a few changes at the beginning, we got into the game quite well. After the third goal, we abandoned our game plan. That gave the opponent some space and energy and completely took away our rhythm. So we got into a kind of fighting mode to bring the game home. In the end, the win still gives us a little confidence. Nevertheless, we are now looking directly at the game tomorrow and the boys know that we have to improve as the tournament progresses."
Defender and captain Moritz Müller: "We had a good start and then at some point we became too relaxed. We were certainly relieved to have the upper hand today after the tough game against Canada. But we forgot that work comes first. So we gave China a chance to get back into the game. That was negligent."

Friday, February 11th, 11:50 a.m.: National coach Toni Söderholm after today's training session
“We as the German national team have to act much better and attack the player in charge of the target more aggressively, especially in the defensive zone. At the same time, the player who goes into the duel first also needs the support of the others. We also have to play more efficiently when we have the disc with us. I would also like to see us play more aggressively towards the opponent's goal and therefore put more pressure on our opponents. Showing a strong work ethic is very important to us.”
Friday, February 11th, 11 a.m.: Update on Marco Nowak
Our defender is currently receiving good treatment and everything has been diagnosed. He is therefore “day-to-day” and stays with TeamD in Beijing.

On the first match day of Group A, our German men’s national team met the record Olympic champions Canada in the Wukesong Arena in Beijing and lost 1:5. The goal for the DEBTobias Rieder made the selection.
National coach Toni Söderholm: "Canada was very strong and efficient in the first third when it came to exploiting scoring opportunities. We were a bit too slow with some of our decisions. We were also not at the level we had imagined in terms of quality. We did get a little better as the game went on, but overall Canada was the better team."
Defender Korbinian Holzer: “In the first third we reacted more than acted. The Canadians also played very aggressively, which meant we couldn't cope well with the small area. It was difficult because of the deficit. We got into the game better in the second third, but the Canadians were more cold-blooded overall. We will learn our lessons from it.”
Striker Tobias Rieder: “When you concede three quick goals in the first third against such a strong team, it's hard to come back. We have to play more calmly from the back and not let our opponents stand so freely in front of the goal.”

Wednesday, February 09th, 18 p.m.: Food in the Olympic Village – Marcel Noebels likes it
Marcel Noebels knows what we want to know: Finally a player tells us about the food in the Olympic Village: “The cafeteria in our Olympic Village is great. I think the most popular dish, not just for us but for all athletes, is a Chinese bowl with meat and vegetables. The queue is always quite long there. Otherwise there are noodles, rice, vegetables and fruits for dessert. So everything an athlete's heart desires, we can't complain. We can get the food at different stations. We don't have the flying robots that we know from the other Olympic village. We’re still using the tray in the cafeteria ourselves.”
Wednesday, February 09th, 16:20 p.m.: This is what national coach Toni Söderholm says before the start of the tournament
“We had effective training days. Although there wasn't a lot of time on the ice, the team trained very well during that time. It's important to me that we are a unit in the games. Each player should recognize what is coming from his fellow player. We want to be there for each other, work aggressively - and above all be a very, very unpleasant opponent for the other nations. It must be difficult to play against us."

The boys are in a very good mood and I can hear a lot of laughter in the dressing room. Nevertheless, they work very concentrated and focused. Sunday, February 06, 2022, 17 p.m.: Comments on the third day of training
Striker Yasin Ehliz about ice training: "Training is very good. We didn't have much time yesterday, only 45 minutes, because the ice schedule is very tight, so it was rather short and tight. But today it was a bit longer. The only adjustment we have is the small ice surface. Things move a bit faster and you don't have as much time. That's why the training game against the Slovakians tomorrow will definitely do us good. Apart from that, Toni and the coaching staff are preparing us very well so that we are ready for the games."
Yasin Ehliz about the daily routine: "We can't do too much because we're not really allowed to leave the Olympic Village, but we can move around freely here. The days still go by quite quickly. Our daily routine has been very similar so far: PCR test, training, food. At the end of the day, we're here to win something."
David Wolf about the training: "I definitely think that we are slowly getting into the groove here. Especially when it comes to the ice surface, it is a lot smaller here than we are used to in Europe. There are different processes that you have to go through again and again so that you realize that everything is a bit tighter. That's why we did a lot of exercises here recently in training, where you get a good feel for the small ice surface. Apart from that, we have also worked more intensively on the special teams in the last two days. I think that after three days we have arrived on the ice surface and can now take the next steps forward."
David Wolf about everyday life and daily tests: "It's nothing earth-shattering here. The testing station is diagonally opposite the house where we live. We walk there in the morning and are out again within two minutes. It's also directly on the way to the cafeteria, where breakfast is served. As far as the planning here goes, everything is going smoothly. Of course, it's fun to sit next to other guys at lunch and talk to them, rather than just those you live with in the apartment."
Sunday, February 06, 2022, 10:20 a.m.: Korbinian Holzer joins DEB team in Beijing
Completed all the formalities at home, landed in China yesterday, tested negative and was training today: Korbinian Holzer completes the squad of our German men's national team for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
DEB-Sports director Christian Künast: “We are pleased that we were able to easily organize his subsequent journey and that Korbinian arrived safely with us. Now we are finally complete and can continue to prepare for the start of the tournament. In this context, we would like to express our thanks once again to our organizational team in Munich and the DOSB, who always supported us actively in completing all the formalities relating to our entire journey.”
Defender Korbinian Holzer: “I'm obviously relieved that I can get started with the boys straight away after my arrival today. The journey was long, but overall it worked well. Now it’s important for me to arrive as quickly as possible and really get involved in training so that we can go into the first game of the tournament optimally prepared.”
Saturday, February 05, 2022, 20 p.m.: Agreer Opening ceremony and the second ice training session in Beijing
Striker Dominik Kahun: "We all had a lovely evening. It's incredible to experience an opening ceremony like this live and, above all, to meet the other athletes from the other disciplines. It was the perfect way for us to get in the mood for the start of the tournament. We are all ready and went out on the ice again today with great joy."
Striker Daniel Pietta: "For everyone who was there, it was certainly a unique experience with all the other nations. For me personally, it's a dream come true to be able to take part in an Olympic tournament. We have a lot of fun together on the ice and there's a lot of energy behind it. I really noticed that today, as I couldn't be there yesterday."
Friday, February 04, 2022, 15 p.m.: injury time in ice hockey
The women's ice hockey tournament had its first strange moment yesterday. In the game between Finland and the USA, Finland's Susanna Tapani scored 2:20 minutes before the end to make it 2:5. But the referees didn't give the goal. They only noticed their mistake through the video evidence. The two teams were already shaking hands - but had to do it again; There was also two minutes and 20 seconds of injury time. The result of the game didn't change, the Americans beat the Finns 5-2.
Friday, February 04, 2022, 11:16 a.m.: Voices from Beijing about today's first ice training
National coach Toni Söderholm: “The training today was quite short; we went through a small tactical matter in advance via video study. The main goal today was to get going. Our boys looked lively on the ice and that gave us a good first impression. The conditions on site are also suitable for us, so we can prepare well for the next training days.”
Defender Marco Nowak: “It was a short and crisp first ice session today, ideal for finally arriving here. We were all happy to finally be able to get on the ice and relax our legs. Both the arena and the training hall offer good opportunities for us, we were already able to see that for ourselves today.”
Striker Marcel Noebels: “It was of course exciting today to see how everything is set up here and also to get to know our cabin. We also took the opportunity to take a first look at the large arena. The training was good after the long flight and the first night here in China. We are now looking forward to the next few days and events that lie ahead.”
Friday, February 04, 2022, 9 a.m.: First ice training completed
High speed, full of enthusiasm, enormous motivation: While we were still sipping our coffee in Germany, the national ice hockey team was already busy in the training hall. The first ice session of the 2022 Winter Olympics has been completed. After training, our captain Moritz Müller spoke of an unusually small ice surface for Europeans and very wet ice. But the good thing is that all teams first have to get used to these conditions.

Oops, what was going on? Mo Müller was in the middle of recording for the Sportschau's Olympic podcast, but then the police suddenly rang at his door.
