After 27 years of presidency by René Fasel, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has elected a new world president: In the 4th round of voting, the Frenchman Luc Tardif prevailed over his competitors - and began working as IIHF president straight away on election day.
The IIHF semi-annual congress in St. Petersburg on Saturday, September 25, 2021 was characterized by the highest security standards and exciting votes. The IIHF delegates came together in a hybrid format to elect their new president. There were a total of five candidates - Luc Tardif prevailed in the 4th and final round of voting with 67 votes compared to Franz Reindl's 39 votes.

Franz Reindl was subsequently elected to the IIHF Council and continues to hold an important position within the world association.
